~Nifty Thrifty~

Happy *Thrifty Friday*! It has been a long time since I thrifted for 'sport'. Apparently I had a hard time 'catching and releasing' last summer! My garage could be featured in an episode of 'Hoarders'. No lie. But I am not worried in the least bit. I have no problem letting things go. I just have a problem finding the time to make them beautiful first. Which is why I (my husband) recognized (declared) that thrifting (junking) and I (my husband) needed a break :)

Well, today I couldn't resist the urge. Maybe it was the fact that for the first time in months I was able to see a speck of free space in my garage. Maybe I wanted to reward myself for all my hard work this past year. Maybe I wanted to make sure there were still plenty of fish in the sea. And I had a good excuse for stopping by. Each and every Friday is 25% off your entire purchase for VIP's. I'm a VIP. Plus, I had a bunch of stuff I needed to drop off anyway. Additional bonus? 25% ANYTIME coupon for donations. Score! Seriously, who am I to ignore the obvious signs the universe was sending me?

So I packed my little guy and myself into the van and trotted on over. And thank goodness I did! Just look at all the goodies I found today:

I have been asked how on earth I find all the things I do. I have to say I find them by not looking. What I mean is I go into a thrift store with a completely open mind. I find the more I am looking for something specific, the less likely I am to find it. So unless you really like hunting for thrift store treasures somewhat regularly you might not find that specific item. But if you keep yourself open the whole place becomes a hidden treasure! That being said I do look for general things. For example, I am currently (always) looking for throws, vintage chenille bedding, bed linens, pillow forms, mirrors, linen napkins, lamps & shades, and any type of furniture. So I tend to hone in on those types of items when I am there. Even better? The amazing savings I am addicted to. I bought everything today for $99. That really doesn't sound like much of a deal, but seriously the two lamps and mirror would cost that much alone at any retail shop. I got those and them some:

  • Bone china napkin rings
  • King size vintage chenille bedspread
  • 3 down filled pillow forms
  • Vintage silver lotus flower candelabra
  • Sliced wood board
  • Vintage floral linen napkins
  • Brass urn lamp base
  • Tall nickle lamp base
  • Knit throw
  • Knit baby blanket
  • Embroidered linen napkins
  • Faux brass pot
  • Shabby Tablecloth
  • Two tall plate stands
  • Embroidered linen throw pillow
  • A Pampered Chef 4 loaf cooking stone!
  • 2 composition notebooks for the kiddos
  • Cute crocheted hat with flower
  • And my favorite of all: Mirror!!

Are you kidding me? Whoever is on my side in the universe I just want to say a big THANK YOU. May I never get on your wrong side!

What are your thrift store vices? What can't you pass up? What is your best find ever?

  1. Nice pick ups!! I have a thing for vintage linen Tea Towels - I just love that they are practical, sometimes highly decorative and always reflect interior styling of the time :0) I am on a strict limit of purchases per month ;0)

  2. I have been "banned" from thrifting until I move some of the backlog in our garage - we moved house almost a month ago and all of my treasures had to move too - 2 600 cubic foot shipping containers full of just my stuff (junk)... I love old books, milk jugs and pitchers, mirrors, lamps and vintage haberdashery.
I <3 most of your haul here - especially the napkin rings.
